Taylorville School Board

BULLETIN

·   A 13 member citizens task force was created to  review district funding, programming, staffing and facilities

·   The task force met from August 2007 thru January 2008 and concluded that the current funding structure is not adequate to meet the short term financial needs of the district.

·   In order to improve the financial status of the district, the task force made five recommendations:

1.    Develop a robust and effective communication plan concerning school problems and proposed solutions.

2.    Close Mt Auburn and West Elementary Schools.  Redraw elementary school boundaries to fully utilize the Stonington Elementary School.

3.    Return to a traditional junior high teaching model from the current middle school teaching concept.

4.    Pursue a referendum for a $0.50 increase in the Districts Tax Rate.

5.    Examine the relationship with Mid-State Special Education to identify  opportunities for improving services and consider alternatives delivering these services

·  The board of education will meet Tuesday,
February 26, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. in the Administrative Building to begin evaluation and consideration of recommendation number 2.

·   The board will continue to update the community as the process moves forward.
